Plus: An actual GTA 6 leak

Happy Thursday Anon! Today we're discussing the recent rise in high profile hacks. Estimated read time: 1.1 minutes.

Uber and Rockstar Games have reportedly been hacked by the same skilled social engineer and hacker. Why it matters: This new hacker is creating all sorts of problems for Uber and Rockstar by exposing data and internal projects.

  • Especially for Rockstar—GTA 6 has been one of the secretive games in development in the Gaming industry's history.

The backstory: Uber was hacked last Thursday in a successful social engineering attack with the hacker posing as a member of Uber's IT team. Rockstar was hacked in a similar way but the hacker, reportedly, only gained access to the employee Slack channel.Impacts on Uber: Uber is still investigating the scope of the breach, but a customer data leak would be devastating for the company and its stock price.  Impacts on Rockstar: GTA 6 is real and in development. Despite being only one year in development, the footage leaked shows that Rockstar is focusing on detail. The leak has also sent Rockstar parent company's stock, Take Two Interactive ($TTWO), on a downward spiral.  Who's the hacker: An 18 year old kid (couldn't be me!).The days of teenage hackers are back from the early 2000s.  The big picture: Cybersecurity is paramount with the average cost of premiums rising 25% since last year, and some policyholders paying over an 80% higher rate in 2022.The bottom line: GTA 6 looks like it's going to be a hit and Uber could be in crisis if the hacker leaks the data.
