🥽🕹 5 things consumers actually want from the Metaverse

This study is a map to the future

Happy Tuesday Anon! Today we're discussing a survey that asked consumers what they want from the Metaverse.

Estimated read time: 1.3 minute.

A month ago, Vox and the United Talent Agency published a comprehensive survey on what consumers actually want from the Metaverse. To no one's surprise, half don't even know what it is, but 88% of the 13-25 age bracket have used it.  Why it matters: Companies are shoving the word "Metaverse" into everything to seem hip and innovative but nobody is actually asking consumers what they want. It's usually best for companies to combine what consumers want and add their own flavor to it. The tl;dr of the survey: Consumers want virtual world experiences tied to their interests but don't want the Metaverse to outright replace traditional media.  Key insights:1. The Metaverse is for the influencer.

2. Consumers want to be entertained. The insight: It seems like consumers would be willing to abandon traditional ways of consuming media in favor of a virtual world, and media companies should prepare for this shift. Especially the entertainment industry.

3. The Metaverse has a boredom problemThe insight: If a company wants to create an experience in the Metaverse like Roblox, Fortnite, RecRoom, or Meta Horzons, it has to be interesting. Consumers do not want walking simulators, they want experiences that help them connect with others and create new things.

Caveats: This is a survey that asks people what they want, oftentimes, people don't know what they really want with a product.

The bottom line: The Metaverse is NOT going to replace traditional media - it is going to create a new form of media in a similar way that the internet did according to this survey.
